Preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Mary's Cathedral Parish

For children in grade six and above

Whenever our children prepare to receive a sacrament in the Catholic Church, it reminds us of how important our roles as teachers and role models are in their faith development. We strive to lead them to God and to full and active participation in the Church through our own examples of love, faith, and forgiveness. Fortunately, these are not tasks that we have to accomplish on our own, we have the support and example of our schools and parishes.

For most of us who were baptized as children, Confirmation is the sacrament that completes our full initiation into the Church. Confirmation is sometimes called the sacrament of the Holy Spirit, because it is through this sacrament that we are reminded that we received the gift of the Spirit in Baptism, and that we are now sealed with the Spirit. In Confirmation we are reminded of our baptismal call to carry on the mission of Christ to spread the Good News of God through our actions and words of faith, hope, and charity. The sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated with Bishop William McGrattan during the Easter Season.

Rev. John Nemanic, Rector and Rev. Julian Studden, Assintant Rector of St. Mary's Cathedral want to assure you that we will be honoured to work with you and your child on this faith journey.

Preparation will consist of one parent meeting, seven student classes and a retreat, all of which require mandatory attendance. Parents will also be provided with resources, and are encouraged to be strong role models of the Catholic faith as your child prepares to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Parents, if for some reason  your child cannot attend a session, please contact the parish office as we are very willing to assist you in supporting your child’s learning. You are encouraged and welcome to contact the parish office or the parish priest about Sacrament Preparation for Children.
