The sacraments of initiation (Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation) are usually conferred upon the Catechumen and Candidates at the Easter Vigil Mass.  However, due to Covid-19 these sacraments have been rescheduled for 5:00 PM Mass on Saturday August 15, 2020, which is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  There are 5 Catechumen who will be fully initiated at this Mass and 10 adults Candidates who will complete their sacraments and will be received into the Roman Catholic Church through Confirmation.

The preparation process for initiation is a sacramental, liturgical process and liturgy is the work of all of the members of the parish community.  Parishioners are asked to embrace new seekers of the faith that through our actions they grow in understanding of what it means to be a follower of Christ and live as He lived.  This is not a specialized ministry but rather, belongs to all of the baptized as both a privilege and responsibility.

As a new year of the Catechumenate begins once again, there will be regular submissions to the bulletin for all members of our community to learn more about the mysteries of Christ and of our faith, so as to prepare us to have something to offer/share with the new group of “seekers of the faith” through a mystagogical review (an uncovering of the mysteries of our faith) and reflection of the Easter season.  It is also important to understand the languages of liturgy - do I have the eyes, ears and heart to ‘read’ the languages of sign, symbol, gesture, song proclamation, silence, touch, taste that make up this liturgical experience and to help others discover its power?  Do I understand that the initiation ministry is a conversion journey of the Catechumen and Candidate and of the entire community, delving deeper into the Sacred mysteries?

Our new year of the Catechumenate will formally begin at the Sunday Mass on August 23 at 10:00 AM. We will be welcoming 5 new adult seekers to  our parish community and 3 children.

Welcome to the journey!
